Middle Sattre (Austin, TX)

21+ | NO COVER | $10 SUGGESTED DONATION

Hi, my name is Hunter. Middle Sattre (SAT-tree) started as a way for me to work through internalized homophobia and shame leftover from growing up gay in the Mormon church. At first it was just me in my bedroom in Salt Lake City, and I had no intention of sharing it with anyone. But slowly, I started to play my songs for friends, and I realized that there’s power in telling these stories. Since then, it has grown into an eight-piece band in Austin, TX.

Sonically, I think of ourselves as a folk band with an experimental edge. We like to flip folk instruments on their heads. If you come to one of our shows you’ll see us playing banjos with fidget spinners, strapping metal chains across guitar strings, and maybe even putting a mandolin inside of a grand piano. But our noisy experimentalism comes with a deep reverence for traditional folk tunes. This music is warm, yet rugged. Soft-spoken, but a little bit chaotic.

Our full-band lineup includes Mitchell Stevens (electric guitar & banjo), S. Wallace (keyboards), Juniper Nox, (guitar & drums), Kai Jasmin (viola), Sophie Mathieu (cello), James Tabata (bass), and Jordan Walsh (aux folk instruments). We reserve the full-band lineup for larger stages, and frequently play in smaller groups.”
